With the London 2012 Olympics round the corner, Britain’s gold medal hopes rest upon the likes of Mo Farah, Tom Daley, Paula Radcliffe and Jessica Ennis who will be hoping to emulate the past successes of Britain’s greatest Olympians.

This infographic highlights the achievements of some of Britain’s past winners, such as Sir Steve Redgrave who won 5 gold medals in rowing, competing in 5 Olympic games from 1984-2000, Sir Matthew Pinsent who claimed 4 golds for rowing, competing in 4 games from 1992-2000 alongside Redgrave. Also in our list are Paulo Radmilovic, who won gold medals in swimming and water polo, coincidentally when the games were held in London in 1908 Jack Beresford – another rower who won 3 gold and 2 silver medals, and Sir Chris Hoy who cleaned up at Beijing 2008 by winning 3 gold medals for cycling.

The opening ceremony takes place on July 27th, with Archery the first event to take place.
